Sheikh Hasina Expresses Her Gratitude To India, Receives D.Litt

KOLKATA,May 26,2018: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday hailed India for standing beside her country in the time of freedom fighting and crisis.

Bangladesh PM on Saturday thanked the Indian Government and the people of India for the warm hospitality and grace shown towards her. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received ‘Doctor of Literature (DLitt)’ degree from Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol in Paschim Bardhaman district here.

The university authorities conferred the honorary D.Litt degree upon her at a special convocation programme. The PM was honoured with the degree in recognition of her outstanding contributions towards building exploitation- and disparity-free society which is the ideal of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Sheikh Hasina arrived here on Friday on a two-day official visit to India at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Modi, Mamata, Hasina To Meet At Santiniketan On May 25

KOLKATA, May 5,2018: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will meet in Shantiniketan on May 25 for the inauguration of the “Bangladesh Bhawan” Tagore museum.

Sheikh Hasina is expected to pay a two-day visit to West Bengal on May 24-25 to formally inaugurate the Bangladesh Bhaban at Visva-Bharati in Santiniketan and receive an honorary doctorate from Kazi Nazrul University in Asansol.

Kazi Nazrul University, a public university in West Bengal’s Asansol, has decided to confer an honorary doctorate on Hasina. It may take place on May 24 and the Indian prime minister, who is the chancellor of the university, might confer the honorary degree on Hasina.


Chamling Breaks Joyti Basu’s Record

KOLKATA, April 29.2018:Record was made by West Bengal late chief minister Joyti Basu as longest serving  chief minister.  Sikkim chief minister Pawan Kumar Chamling broke the record.  

Due to Left Front consecutive win, Jyothi Basu was chief minister  for 23 years 137 days. On Sunday Chamling broke the record. He is in power from 1994 December 12.

Former chief minister  of Tripura, Manik Sarkar was in the race of breaking Jyoti Basu’s record. But defeat of Left Front in assembly election, Manik Sarkar is out of the race of breaking the record of longest serving chief minister. Now Sikkim chief minister broke the record.

Left Front came to power in 21 June, 1977, Jyoti Basu became chief minister of West Bengal. He was  chief minister till 5 November,2000 ( 23 years  4 months). So Jyoti Basu created record in the country as longest serving chief minister.

It was thought Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar will break the record as he compeleted 20 years in power without break. But on 3 March (Saturday), 2018 Left Front lost the assembly election in Tripura to BJP – IPFT alliance. So Manik Sarkar failed to break the record of Jyoti Basu.        

 Sikkim the state of flowers, Red Panda and Buddhist dominated  became a part of India in 1975. Congress came in power, than Sikkim Janata Parishad and Sikkim Sangram Parishad. Sikkim had five ministers, among them Nar Bahadur Bhandari was chief minister for two terms.

18 CPM Leader Convicted In Murder Case Before Panchayat Election

Bardhaman, April 18,2018: East-Bardhaman district CPM is in massive unease just before the panchayat election. Bardhaman district Court has verdicted 18 people accused in connection with the death incident of two Trinamool Congress supporters. Bardhaman court will sentence their punishment on Wednesday.

The first additional district judge will verdict the punishments. According to the court source, a group of armed CPM supporters led by Milan Malik attacked the TMC supporters in September 14 of 2010 in Jamalpur Muidipur Market.

The incident left critically injured Saheb Santra, Shayamapada Dey, Shyamal Das, Sailen Karmakar, Anil Malik, Dinabandhu Santra. They were under treatment in Bardhaman Medical College.

On the other hand, CPM supporters set fire in many TMC supportes house. On the same day, few CPM supporters made massive attack in Reshalatpur of Jamalpur area.

Mamata Wishes People On Of Poila Baishaki

KOLKATA, April 15,2018 : West Bengal chief Minister on Saturday wished the nation on the occasions of Poila Baishaki. Wishing people on Baishaki, Mamata tweeted that ‘May the cheerful festival of Baisakhi bring in good times and happiness. Wish you all Happy Baisakhi.’

Like every year, this year too. Poila Boishakh or the Bengali New Year is celebrated in the city with much fervour and enthusiasm by both Bengalis and non-Bengalis. Various cultural and art performances are organised for a few days.

Thousands of devotees thronged Dakshineswar Kali temple seeking blessings for prosperity. Traders opened new account books popular as “Haal Khata” following the rituals observed during “Poila Baisakh”.



WB Governor Looks Into Panchayat Polls Violence

KOLKATA, April 8, 2018 : West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on Sunday said that he has heard the version of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and other political parties in the recent incidents of violence during filling of nominations for Panchayat polls in the state.

However, he refused to reveal the action taken in the incidents. Talking to media, Tripathi said, “I have heard TMC’s version and that of other political parties. I will not disclose what action I will take.”

Amid continuous clashes between workers of West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress workers and opposition parties over filing nominations for upcoming panchayat polls.

However, clashes were reported in Birbhum, Murshidabad and Coochbehar districts over filing of nominations for rural polls to be held in first week of May.

A rally led by state Congress President Adhir Chowdhury in Murshidabad’s Kandi area was attacked by unidentified miscreants and later party’s supporters’ gheraod local police station demanding arrests of culprits.

BJP leader Mukul Roy also alleged that the outsiders were brought by the Trinamool to deter their party candidates from filing nominations.

According to police, outsiders from Jharkhand entered into the district creating violence and additional forces were deployed whenever there is report of untoward incident.
