Opposition boycotts municipal council election

Khowai, Dec 5, 2018: Opposition parties boycotted by – election of Khowai Municipal Council. After boycott  its now  confirmed BJP will win uncontested all fifteen wards in the municipal council. Yesterday  was the last day of filling nomination papers. No political parties other than BJP candidates filed nomination papers, which means all seats will be won uncontested.

Main opposition party CPM, Congress and Aamara Bangali  taking dig at ruling BJP for not allowing the opposition to contest the by – election.  The opposition parties claimed BJP have unleashed a reign of terror in entire Khowai Municipal Council area. BJP workers are openly threatening the opposition workers  by saying if any one files nomination the consequence will be worse.

CPM Khowai divisional secretary Padma Kumar Debbarma said from morning onwards yesterday some youths surrounded our district office whole day. Our candidates would not come out of the office and  file nomination papers.  Debbarma strongly condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants.   

Opposition CPM will not contest in the  by – election of Kamalpur Nagar panchayat, however Congress will contest in four seats. By – election is held after chairman of the Nagar Panchayat Subrata Bhattacherjee  resigned with change of government. Kamalpur once a stronghold of CPM, fielding no candidates is assumed as a setback for the party. Meanwhile BJP nominated candidates for 11 wards in nagar panchayat by election.
