Road blockade for attack on AMC councilor

Agartala, Sept 6, 2019: Te unprovoked attack on CPM senior scheduled caste community leader and nominated councillor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Bipad Bandhu Rishi Das united people cutting across political affiliations for the first time in the past eigteen months of BJP-IPFT rule ,  and came out on streets in strong protest against the mindlessly violent attack.

Te protesters conducted road blockade programme in the Aralia Panchabati market on the bank of river Howrah from morning demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants and culprits involved in the unprovoked attack on Bipad Bandh Rishi Das . Shortly thereafter a large police contingent arrived on the spot and convinced the crowd that they would take drastic action as per law without any extraneous consideration and requested the crowd to withdraw the road blockade programme.  Later the protestors withdrew the road blockade telling the police that unless the police took action as promised they would resume the blockage programme soon.

According to police sources, Bipad Bandhu Rishi Das who is a former elected councillor of AMC and incumbent nominated member besides being a senior leader of CPI (M)'s West district committee and Scheduled Caste Co-ordination Committee, had been coming back home through Panchabati market on a motor bike with his daughter on the back from her tutor's house around 9-45 in the night. Suddenly a gang of BJP's 'Yuba Morcha' workers  dancing in the Panchabati market in inebriated condition stopped Bipad Bandhu's motor bike. They started beating up Bipad Bandhu in front of his daughter and other people and seriously injured him . 

The local people shifted him to trauma centre of GBP hospital where he had undergo CT-Scan and four stitches on his battered head besides a large number of bruises on his body. Even in the night CPI (M) MLAs and leaders of party's Scheduled Caste Co-ordination Committee , Sudhan Das and Ratan Bhowmik rushed to the GBP hospital and took care of Bipad Bandhu's treatment. He is reportedly out of danger but the unprovoked attack on Bipad Bandhu and its aftermath have left a bitter taste in the entire Aralia and Pratapgarh area. The CPI (M) MLAs Sudhan Das and Ratan Bhowmik condemned the attack on Bipad Bandhu and demanded immediate arrest of culprits involved in the attack on their party's AMC councillor.
