Poverty stricken death : CPM, Congress lead ers visit deceased house, claims poverty and starvation are reason for deaths

Agartala, Nov 25,2019:Amid political controversy over the tragic deaths of four members of a family in remote Sonai Sannyasi Para village of   Barakathal under Sidhai police station on Saturday morning, two teams of both opposition CPI(M) and Congress visited the spot on Sunday and met the bereaved family members. The opposition leaders claimed that poverty and starvation are the main reasons for these deaths, while ruling party rejected the opposition claims and said that opposition are now doing politics over the pathetic deaths.

Opposition leader Manik Sarkar accompanied a delegation of CPI (M) MLAs and ADC member visited the house of deceased Paresh Tanti and talked to his relatives.

Speaking with media persons, Sarkar said that it is now established that that the tragic death of four-members of the day-laborer Paresh Tanti due to lack of work and food.

"Work and food shortages have been going on everywhere in the last 20 months since the formation of the BJP-IPFT coalition government in Tripura and hungry people's procession demanding work and food is getting longer", said Sarkar demanding jobs through MGNREGA for all poor people of the state.

"Without providing any jobs for poor people like Paresh Tanti, the government cannot stopped such tragic ends", said Sarkar and added that the state government should take serious steps for poor people of the state.

The CPI (M) team also spoke to the neighbors and citing statements of neighbours, they said that Paresh Tanti is a very poor day labor and a MGNREGA beneficiary. But since the BJP-IPFT coalition government come to power, there is hardly any work under MGNREGA. After the ends of Durga Puja festival, a day's work was not given under MGNREGA to the beneficiaries of that area.

While, a CPI (M) statement said that Paresh could not pay the installment of the loan due to lack of work and earnings. On the other hand, due to lack of work and earnings, Paresh was unable to run his family.

CPI (M) in their press statement also said that, the BJP-IPFT alliance in the state cannot avoid the responsibility of the government in this tragic incident. They demanded to provide adequate work and food for the poor people in the hills and villages of the state. The statement also demanded that strict measures should be taken to control lenders on their high interest rates like Annapurna and Bandhan Bank etc in the state.

However, another team of Congress led by Subal Bhowmik also visited the spot and interacted with the victim family members and their neighbours. Addressing a press conference here at Agartala on Sunday evening, Bhowmik claimed that it's a very painful incident and after deaths of four people due to poverty, the victim family had suffered very hardship to complete cremation of these bodies due to shortage of fund’.

Criticizing the state government, Bhowmik said that when in a day 11 people of the state died due to killing and suicide, Chief Minister of the state busy with election campaigning in other state. He said that only Rs. 1000 had given from state government to the victim family for their last rites. Condemning the act of state government Congress demanded Rs. 5 lakh compensation to the victim family at the earliest and concrete steps to stop the deaths of people due to poverty.

Congress also demanded all party meeting  on present situation of the state and demanded CBI enquiry over the murder of police officer Durga Kumar Hrangkhawl (55),  who was  posted at Kalamchowra police station of Sepahijala district was killed by a speeding phensidyl carrying vehicle during  his duty.
