Grand old man of Tripura, GMP leader dies

Agartala, Nov 27, 2019:Rajmangal Debbarma (118), possibly the oldest surviving man and communist in Tripura, breathed his last in the peace and tranquility of his home on Monday evening. He had been one of the founder members of the 'Jana Shiksha Samity' launched by legendary Dasharath Deb on December 27 1945 and was a communist party cadre as well as a leading figure of the party's tribal front organization 'Gana Mukti Parishad' in Kamalpur since the formation of the CPI here in the late forties. Till his last breath he was a member of the CPI (M)'s Maharanipur local committee in Kamalpur. He is survived his only son, three daughters and grand children. 

Rajmangal Debbarma had become a member of the communist party on January 10 1949 and had always been an active participant and leader in movements launched by the CPI since then. Till his death he carefully preserved his Red Card as a mark of his membership of the party. For a long time he had performed his responsibilities as 'Pradhan' of undivided Avanga Panchayat and subsequently kept himself busy in party work. 

Soon after the news of Rajmangal Debbarma's death spread many people including senior leaders of CPI (M) headed by party's Kamalpur divisional committee secretary and former MLA Anjan Das rushed  to his house to pay their tributes. An air of gloom and mourning engulfed the entire Kamalpur subdivisioFormer state secretary of CPI (M) Bijan Dhar described Rajmangal Debbarma passing away as an 'irreparable loss' to the party and the people.
