Agartala Dec 25 ,2019 :  Four CPM leaders including former minister and sitting MLA Ratan Bhowmick was injured  in massive  clash with rival BJP supporters as the latter made a desperate bid to disrupt the programme by attacking it in the middle of the town. As many as  nineteen supporters of both the parties sustained injuries in the attack.

The trouble had stared at 11-00 AM yesterday when large number of CPI (M) supporters had gathered in front of central government offices in Udaipur as per a pre-announced programme to protest the central government's policy of disinvesting the state run PSUs. But as the programme of demonstration was on a large number of BJP supporters rushed to the spot and launched indiscriminate attacks on gathered CPI (M) supporters and leaders in front of police personnel deployed there. In the attack the CPI (M) MLA and senior leader of the party Ratan Bhowmik and Udaipur subdivisional committee secretary Manik BIswas and at least ten other sustained injuries. Besides, two personal security officers of Ratan Bhowmik and the lone security officer of former MLA Madhav Saha also sustained injuries.

The CPI (M) alleged that when their party procession had been wounding through central road and new town area after starting from party office it was attacked by 10/12 BJP 'miscreants' . Yet again when the party's meeting was on in Jamtala area 50/60 BJP supporters attacked the procession again injuring the CPI (M) leaders and workers. Even though police was present in the area they took no action to resist the BJP workers. But the BJP’s office secretary in Gomati district office Tridib Kanti Das told media persons that around 11-00 AM when BJP supporters Ajit Podder, Bhola Deb and Rupon Deb were talking among themselves and with 6/7 others  a CPI (M) procession going by turned violent and attacked and injured them.

But they had to turn back in the face of resistance from local people but Ajit Podder had to be admitted to Tripura Sundari Hospital in a serious condition while Bhola Deb and Rupon Deb have been advised rest after initial treatment by doctors. Tridib Kanti Das blamed the entire fiasco on the unruly CPI (M) supporters. Both the parties have filed FIR and counter FIR putting the blame for trouble
