Massive sample collection begins in Dhalai district

Agartala, May8,2020: The health department has undertaken massive sample collection in Dhalai district to check the ground reality of sudden spike of coronavirus positive cases among BSF jawans.

"Over 900 samples have been collected from Dhalai district, which has been declared as Red Zone following the outbreak. Tests are going on. More samples will be taken to see if other people came in contact with the deadly disease", said Addl Chief Secretary SK Rakesh.

Speaking to the media here today, he informed the samples of health staff of Kulai district hospital (Ambassa) and Gandacherra have been tested negative.

Rakesh also cleared the fear about visiting GBP hospital after it housed the Covid patients. "There is no need to get panic visiting GB Hospital even as Covid patients are treating there. The Covid-19 virus doesn't spread through air. More so, the place where Covid-19 patients are kept is completely isolated from the main hospital", he said when his attention was drawn on a section of doctors reservation over converting a full-fledged hospital at GBP hospital", he said.

Rakesh made it clear that the government doesn't plan to set up dedicated Covid hospital in the state as of now. "It will be costly and time consuming venture. Ailing people could visit IGM or other hospitals to get treatment. The government can't shut down a hospital like of GBP Hospital here critical treatments are being offered", he added.
