Air Asia stops operating from Agartala

Agartala, July 8,2020: Air Asia stopped operating flight service from Agartala. The service started on October 20 last year. The state government yet to issue any statement in this  regard, even though the government  is aware about stopping  of service, sources here in airport  informed.

Barely after nine months after inauguration, Air Asia stopped its operation from June 5 and from Friday it was  made official. Due to this  36 employee lost their job. Its mentionable here that on October 20, the flight service was inaugurated by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in presence of both Lok Sabha MP, transport minister and local MLA by waving flags.

Now when the service  stopped, there is no statement from the state government. Sources in airport  informed letter was written to Ministry of civil aviation but no positive response came from the central ministry.

In 2018 Spice Jet and 2012 Jet airways too  had withdrawn from Tripura..The probable reason for airlines major shunning the state is lack of profit despite providing concessions. Indigo and Air India are two other airliners which are operating in Tripura. Indigo runs direct flights between Agartala and places such as Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Imphal, and Bangalore.
