Assembly session from 19th March

Agartala, March 16,2021: The budget session ( 2021 -22) of the state assembly will start from 19th March and end on 25th March. The session will be for five days.      In between the session there will be   two holidays - Saturday and Sunday. The business of the assembly session was finalized in a meeting of the business advisory committee (BAC), held yesterday.

The meeting of the BAC was held in the conference hall of the state assembly and presided over by the speaker Rebati Mohan Das. Those who attended the meeting included deputy speaker Biswabandhu Sen, finance minister Jishnu Debbarma, revenue minister Narendra Chandra Debbarma, parliamentary affairs minister Ratan Lal Nath, chief whip of the treasury bench Kalyani Roy, two legislators of the opposition CPI (M) Tapan Chakraborty and Sudhan Das and BJP MLA Sudip Roy Barman. 

Sources in the assembly said that the government side had initially proposed to have a four day session but following objections from the opposition CPI (M) MLAs and Sudip Roy Barman it was unanimously decided that the session would be for five days on 19th March and from 22nd to 25th March. Since this will be the year’s first session it will begin , as per rule, with the speech of the governor and followed by presentation of the supplementary budget for the 2020-2021 financial year and full-fledged budget for the upcoming 2021-2022 financial year.

During the five day session altogether nine bills for legislative sanction will be placed . Altogether five bills have already been placed while four more are being prepared for tabling . Besides, a number of private members resolutions will come up for discussion in the assembly session. Giving this information the minister for education and parliamentary affairs Ratan Lal Nath explained away the curtailment of the assembly session , saying that ongoing COVID pandemic had made this unavoidable.
