Kamalnagar massacre: Three awarded life term

Agartala, April 23 (TVN):The additional District and Session court, Khowai on Friday found three persons guilty in  decade old Kamalnagar massacre case and awarded them life term imprisonment.The three convicted  persons- Kartik Debbarma, Brajendra Debbarma and AshokDebbarma were found guilty under section 148/149/302/326 of IPC.

According to court sources, a group of banned outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) had entered into Kamalnagar village in Kalyanpur on August 14, 2013 and rained bullets at the innocent villagers after setting up a major portion of the village on fire.Altogether 11 villagers were killed and many persons were injured in the massacre

 After that, Nitai Sarkar, a local villager, who had a narrow escape, lodged a written complaint at Kalyanpur police station on the very next day of incident.Based on the complaint, the cops in-vestigated case vide- 38/2013 and framed the charge-sheet against 17 accused persons. While 14 other accused persons of this case were acquitted from the charges

 The Investigation Officer (IO) submitted the charge-sheet before the Additional District and Sessions Court, Khowai on December 14, 2009.Subsequently, the court completed a long-period trial and recorded the statements of altogether 38 witnesses.At the end of trial, the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Khowai- P.K. Datta today found the three persons guilty under section 149/302/326 of IPC and acquitted he 14 other accused persons from the charges due to lack of evidences. Public Prosecutor (PP) Shailendra Paul represented the case in favor of government.
