Drugs worth over Rs 50 lakh seized from train

Agartala, Oct 6,2018: Acting on secret information BSF on Friday seized  265 grams suspected heroin/ brown sugar from a coach. The estimate cost of seized drugs is over Rs 50 lakh. In a press statement issued by BSF stated that on  on specific information received to Field ‘G’ Team, Sector Panisagar about transportation of consignment of Heroin / Brown Sugar, from Assam to Agartala, using Silchar – Agartala Passenger Train No.55664.

Operational parties of 55 Bn BSF at Panisagar and 133 Bn BSF at BNalkata were kept ready at their respective locations to nab suspected carrier and seized lethal drug detrimental to State youths, on addiction of same. At about 01:35 PM Inspr Santosh Kumar along with 05 members of Field ‘G’ Team, Sector Panisagar boarded the said train, at Panisagar Railway Station in civil dress, in two groups.

 One group boarded in the front general boggie near the engine and other group boarded on the rear general boggie. Both groups cautiouslylooked for any suspicious carrier with suspected bag/baggage. At about 02:05 PM, when the train was about to reach Kumarghat Railway Station, indication received that the consignment is in a yellow coloured plastic bag and kept in the boggie meant for handicapped person adjoining engine.

As the train reached Kumarghat Station, both the teams hurriedly approached the said boggie. The Operational party of 133 Bn BSF led by Shri Manoj Kumar, DC along with 02 SOs and 06 Other ranks already present at Kumarghat railway station to reached the spot. During search, the operational teams located a yellow plastic polythene bag under one seat.

The passengers were enquired about its possession, but no one claimed same as their own. On searching the bag, two books were found inside it, out of which in one book, a packet of suspected heroin powder was found hidden, by making a required cavity in the book, precisely cutting its pages to clandestinely conceal the drug. The operational teamsseized, Seized items handed over to GRP, Dharmanagar Railway Station, in consultation with due regards to procedural formalities. FIR lodged in this regard.
