Ganja haul in ambulance

Dharmanagar, Dec 3, 2018 :An ambulance ferrying 170kg  of marijuana ( Ganja) worth around Rs 9 lakh  was seized in South  Harua  under Dharmanagar police station today noon.The ambulance driver and his aide managed to give police the slip..

Police retrieved as much as  17 packets  each sack containing 10 kg each, from the ambulance.. However, no one was arrested as the smuggler duo managed to flee before police could reach the spot.

"The ambulance was carrying around 170 kg of marijuana ( ganja) stashed in as many as 17 sacks. The patrol party had seen two men inside the ambulance but they managed to flee, leaving the consignment behind. A manhunt is on," said North Tripura  SP Bhanupada Chakraborty..

"Police have found  name  related to the ownership of the ambulance. The owner is Jharna Das ( 58). Today being a  government  holiday, we could not get papers verified, but a team will visit the district   transport office  tomorrow (Tuesday). We believe that the papers may lead us to the gang involved,"  SP said.

Police, however, are still not sure about the destination of the consignment. The SP said. "But, we will get to the root of this racket."

Meanwhile, Airport police  station arrested to two person and seized 51 kg  of  ganja and 630 bottles of banned cough syrup.  Alamgir Hussein, OC of Airport police station  said, “we got information Prabir Datta and Narayan Datta have stock of ganja and banned cough syrup in their house in Narsinghar. Accordingly police conducted raid and  recovered them and detained Prabir Datta and his son Subham Datta”
