Finance Commission to visit on January 16

Agartala, Jan 10,2019:The 15th Finance Commission will be visiting the state on January 16, to have detailed meetings with the Chief Minister, senior Ministers and officers involved in the planning and implementation of various welfare schemes in the State.  The visiting 14 member Finance Commission team is led by  N.K .Singh.  

According to sources in secretariat said the Finance Commission officials are likely to meet leaders from major political parties and representatives from commerce and industry during their visit. Likewise, the officials are also likely to interact with those involved in the management of local bodies.

Ahead of visit of the finance commission, the second high level preparatory meeting was held in secretariat conference today chaired by chief secretary L K Gupta. In the meeting principal secretaries, secretaries, special secretaries and additional secretaries of various departments attended the meeting. According to sources chief secretary reviewed the progress of work of each department about reports that  will be  placed before the visiting  Finance Commission.              

Meanwhile the state government has sought pre-devolution revenue deficit of Rs 1,07,714.83 Cr from 15th Finance Commission for the period of 2020-21 to 2024-25 financial years besides separate funds of over Rs 4900 Cr for disaster management and Rs 17000 Cr for sector-specific projects. The memorandum  has been sent to the 15th Finance Commission after approval of the council of ministers.

Sources  stated that the government has projected the expenditure between 2020-21 and 2024-25 would be Rs 1,22,214.89 Cr and the revenue collection by the state from own sources would not be more than Rs 14,500 Cr.

The 14th FC has not recommended state specific and sector-specific grants for Tripura, which has seriously affected infrastructure and provision of comparable service to the citizens.Tripura has also received lower devolution of central tax compared to other states of Northeast. As a result, 15th FC is requested not to repeat the same, sources added.
