Tripura Congress releases black balloons protesting PM visit

Agartala, Feb 9,2019: Tripura Pradesh Congress today protested the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister arrived here for one day visit to dedicate some projects to nation and later addressed a public rally here at Swami Vivekananda Maidan.

Congress workers took out a rally from congress bhawan with anti – Modi slogan placards and black flags. Some congress workers also released  hundreds of black ballons while Modi was addressing from Swami Vivekananda Maidan.  Releasing of black ballons in protest against any Prime Minister is first of its kind in the state.

Congress was protesting the Citizenship Amendment Bill ( CAB). The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill seeks to provide Indian citizenship to Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan after six years of residence in India even if they do not possess any document. 

The bill was passed by the Lok Sabha during the Winter Session on January 8 and has been awaiting Rajya Sabha nod.
