West Tripura LS seat: Apex court rejects CPM plea of urgent hearing

Agartala, May 9,2019 :The Supreme Court today rejected  to allow an urgent hearing on a writ petition challenging Election Commission's decision of holding re-poll in 168 polling booths of West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency.

In the writ  petition, the sitting MP and Left Front candidate Sankar Prasad Datta has sought apex court's directive for fresh polling for the Lok Sabha constituency due to large scale malpractice on the voting held on April 11.

Chief Justice of Supreme Court  Rajan Gogoi rejected to give an urgent hearing on the plea as the court finds no urgency in the petition and remarked- "It will be listed as usual". Since, vacation goes on summer vacation from tomorrow; the plea is most likely to be heard in the vacation court.

Meanwhile, Abhijit Manu Singhvi  senior Supreme  Court advocate nad of  senior leader of Congress today afternoon filed a writ petition seeking the apex court's intervention for ordering re-poll in 433 polling stations of West Tripura Lok Sabha.  Beside Congress will contest in repoll of 168 boths of the controversy marred West Tripura Parliamentary constituency.
