Agartala Flyover: Final inspection by IIT,Delhi before inauguration

Agartala, July 12.2019: Just one more final inspection, the Agartala Flyover will be open for public before this year Durga Puja. Officials in PWD said another team from IIT, Delhi will arrive in first week of September to review road safety measures of the flyover. After getting the green signal, the flyover  will be inaugurated before Durga Puja this year. The CRRI ( central road research institute ) already  certified  the structure of the flyover is safe for vehicular movement.

Meanwhile, the PWD is busy doing the remaining work left like - road marking, road signs and reconstruction of the approach at fire brigade chowmuhani. After completion of the work, PWD will inform IIT Delhi for their inspection  about road safety of the flyover.

PWD official said the inspection that will be done by  the IIT team is just a formality. The team will see the approaches of the flyover, road marking and signs including the light facilities. Within week after their visits the team will give their green signal  and then PWD will hand over the fly over to Agartala Municipal Corporation.

The 2.25 km long  two-lane flyover  is having a width of 8.5 m.The construction was made in stretches from the police line in southern Agartala to fire brigade chowmuhuni (square) in the heart of the city. After inauguration of the flyover  it is expected that traffic jam will end to large extend due to smooth movement vehicles.

At present there are more than 4 lakh motor vehicles of various categories in the state and parking has become a major problem in the state capital. The rush of people to Agartala is also difficult to tackle unless we have smooth movement of people and vehicles. The foundation stone of the flyover was laid by former chief minister Manik Sarkar on 29 May, 2015.
