Hike in treatment fees in hospitals:: CPM, Congress organize demonstration

Agartala, Sept 9,2019: Opposition CPM and Congress on Monday organized protest demonstration over  the notification of Health and Family Welfare department, in which the department has revised the tariff for all services under Health department like private healthcare services including Intensive Care Unit (ICU), cabin charges, oxygen cylinders, diagnoses and diet, which are previously provided at free of cost.

Both the opposition party organized demonstration in two separate places.CPM organized a protest demonstration in front directorate office here in Gukhabasti and Congress organized in GBP hospital at noon and protest marc at evening in Agartala.

Large number workers from both party’s wit flags and festoons gathered and raised slogan against state government demanding roll back of the decisions.

Top CPI (M) leaders like Pabitra Kar, former MP Sankar Prasad Datta addressed the protest gathering and claimed that the present state government has declared war against common people of the state. The BJP-IPFT state government since inception is continuing their oppression policies against people of the state.

Congress party was top leaders like Gopal Roy, Subal Bowmik and Pijush Kanti Biswas  addressed the congress workers. They demanded immediate scrap of the notification as its anti – people.

The state government has recently increased in the fees charged for various diagnostic procedures and treatment in government hospitals in the state.

The health and family welfare department on Friday night through a notification, announced two-three-fold increase in the fees charged for treatment in government run hospital besides introducing new fees in some services.

According to the notification, from now onwards the APL patients would have to pay a registration fee of Rs 20 in the government hospitals.

The ICU admission would cost Rs 600 for APL patients and Rs 400 for priority group patients. Histology and Sistology tests would cost Rs 863.

Besides, earlier out of 113 bio-chemical tests done in government hospitals, 74 tests could be done free of cost but now all these tests will entail heavy expenses.

Kidney biopsy was earlier done free of cost but now it will entail an expense of Rs 1470 while the cost for gastro-enteric biopsy has been increased from Rs 400 to Rs 1950.

State health department sources said that due to financial crisis as well as to maintain standard of services, the government has decided to increase the fees in government run hospital.
