Darkness descends on Agartala and adjoining areas, as power grid collapses

Agartala, Sept, 21,2019: Ahead Durga Puja festival power supply in Agartala and its adjoining areas have disrupted due to collapse of power grid on Friday afternoon. Around 50 thousand consumers were affected due to sudden power disruption. To cope the situation load shedding is given after every one hour. It may take few more days to bring the situation back to normal.

According to sources in TSECL, due to machinery fault of 50 MVA transformer in 79 tilla Grid Power Station the supply of power of got disrupted. The transformer was  installed month back at cost around Rs 5 crore in Grid Power Station. But one month after installation due to machinery fault, the transformer stopped functioning suddenly. Sources informed Director ( Technical) S. Singh was chairman of the purchase committee of the transformer. Sudden break down of the new transformer raised eye brows on integrity of the purchase committee.

Besides in last six months around eight managers and senior managers took VRS and  same number of have applied for VRS. Due to this TSECL is facing severe shortage of experienced engineers at sub station level. The reason for taking VRS, a senior manager requesting anonymity said, “Those who once were boot licker of erstwhile CPM government, after BJP came to power with no time became close to ruling party leaders. They started dictating terms to those officers who works in grass root level directly linked with consumers. This has affected the moral of officers and had no option left other than taking VRS”.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb have reviewed the  power situation in the state in a late night meeting with senior official of TSECL. He directed immediate steps to normalize the power supply
