Aadi Mahotsav : Tripura tribal’s deprived from showcasing its rich culture

New Delhi, Nov 19, 2019:  Tripura tribal’s which have rich culture and tradition, but due to lack of interest  by Tribal Welfare Department could not participate in Aadi Mahotsav 2019, at Delhi Haat, New Delhi.

When a senior official of the Mahotsav was asked today in Delhi Haat why there is no participant from Tripura,  which have 19 tribes with their own cultural and identity,

The official with  regret said, “ We on January visited Agartala twice, approached senior offficals of Tribal Welfare Department and Hon’ble minister of the department Mr. Mewar Kumar Jamatia. And informed them Aadi Mahotsav will held national capital and urged them to participate in it. But unfortunately, the department did not show any interest participating in the national mahotsav”

“ Union Home Minister  Amit Shah inaugurated the 15 days Aadi Mahotsav on November 16. The Aim of the Mahotsav is effort of Modi government to take tribal commerce to the next level of digital and electronic transactions. 
Over 1000 tribal artisans and artists from 27 States are participating in the festival.Only there was no participants of Tripura”  said the official.

He informed the theme of the Aadi Mahotsav 2019 is a Celebration of the Spirit of Tribal Crafts, Culture, and Commerce. The theme is to represent the basic ethos of tribal life. The Aadi Mahotsav is an effort to take tribal commerce to the next level of digital and electronic transactions. The tribal textiles manufactured by master tribal craftsmen from Jammu and Kashmir in the North to Tamil Nadu in the South and from Gujarat in the West to Nagaland/Sikkim/ Assam/Manipur/ Mizoram in the East  is the main attractions.

For the first time, the Aadi Mahotsav is showcasing a wide range of products from the tribal artisans from Leh in Ladakh. 254 stalls have been set up and one thousand tribal artisans and artists are participating in the tribal festival., the official added.

Tribal Welfare Department minister, Mewar Kumar Jamatia in  conversation over telephone today from Agartala could not give any reason why his department failed to participate in the Mahotsav.
