IPFT calls for 12 hours 'bandh' in ADC on Dec 9

Agartala,Dec 07, 2019: After two tribal based political parties TSP, INPT now it’s the turn of IPFT to flex their muscle in Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council ( TTAADC). 

IPFT, who is an ally of BJP government in Tripura decided to call 12 – hour bandh on December 9th in the state's TTAADC areas to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) and to grant a separate state named ‘Tipraland’ to tribals of Tripura.

In a press conference on Saturday IPFT general secretary Mangal Debbarma Debbarma said, "We want the CAB to be scrapped. We also want Tipraland, which is our main demand. Our party has decided to hold the strike from 5 am till 5 pm on December 9  across areas under the TTAADC."

 

IPFT under the leadership of N C Debbarma came to prominent in state leadership demanding  separate state named’ Tipraland’. During the rule of Left, IPFT organized large scale protest in tribal  dominated areas. They succeded in gaining support of tribals mostly the young generation. The IPFT made headlines when they blocked the life line of the state NH – 44 at Champak Nagar.The blockade was more than 10 days.

 In 2018 assembly election, IPFT allied with BJP and contest in nine seats out of 20 reserved seats for ST. IPFT managed to win in eight seats and two of its MLA got berth in the cabinet. One his N C Debbarma and Mewar Kumar Jamatia.

In last two years, IPFT started losing its support  specially from youth. The slogan of separate state was no longer heard from their leaders. After two years they, when TTAADC election is knocking  the door , IPFT is trying to test their support base by calling the bandh.  13+
