Pratima Bhowmik clad in saree walks in the Union Cabinet : Glorifies Feminism.

Agartala, July 07: Pratima Bhowmik 52, who unsuccessfully contested assembly elections twice against Tripura’s longest-serving chief minister Manik Sarkar in 1998 and 2018. However, courageous tigress never slammed down herself , She became the first-term Member of Parliament from Tripura in 2019 from West Tripura.

Bhowmik is a representation of women power and is the first ever permanent resident of Tripura to join the Union Cabinet. She is also the third woman from North East India to make a grand entry to the Union Cabinet succeeding Bijoya Chakraborty of Assam and Agatha Sangma of Meghalaya .

A science graduate, she is among the senior-most leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state. A science graduate, Bhowmik joined the party in 1991 and has since held organisational positions in the state. The daughter of a school teacher, Bhowmik has also been involved in farming in her native Baranarayan village in Sonamura. She also was a keen Kho-kho and Kabaddi and took part in the block, district, and state-level competitions

Bhowmik is certainly a mediator of all possible fortunes for the remote hill state Tripura. Citizens are glad to have such a down to earth political leader, also the symbol of feminine politics as she stands just as a synonym of  Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal. Clad in handloom sarees, with slippers and no makeup on , this lady is a replacement of luxurious political heads. Born and brought up in a peasant family in distant Dhanpur, Tripura located on the Indo-Bangladesh Border, is presently giving wings to the dream of youths especially young women to chase their dreams ,clean the stingy notion about politics and jump over the political battlefield of India.

Earlier from the state  Triguna Sen, who was from West Bengal but represented Tripura in Rajya Sabha, was a minister in former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s cabinet. Santosh Mohan Dev, a resident of Assam, contested Lok Sabha polls in 1989 from West Tripura constituency and became a minister in former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s cabinet.
