BG conversion: CRS inspection to start from March 26

Agartala, March 14 (TVN): Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) would start inspection from Kumarghat to Agartala board gauge conversion March 26, according to official sources. The inspection would be carried for one week. S.K. Pathak,  working under the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MCA) has already given his consent to undertake inspection. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) authority has already geared up to make the CRS inspection successful and asked its officials to complete whatever works are left. In the 109 km track, there will be six crossing stations and four halt stations.Three Road Over Bridges (ROBs)- Ambassa, Teliamura and in between Agartala-Jirania have already been completed.

MBB college student dies in road mishap

Agartala, March 13 (TVN): An 20-year-old youth was killed on the spot when  he  was hit by a speeding motorbiker near Bijoy Sangha club, under Khayerpur police station  today evening.The deceased has been identified as Tapas Karmakar , a  first year student of MBB college and resident of Khayerpur.According to the police the deceased was walking by the road when hit by the motor bike . Passers-by alerted the police who rushed to the spot and summoned fire and emergency service personnel, shifted the injured student to hospital where he was declared as brought dead. However, police unable to trace the motorbiker and the bike.  

Earthquake: mild tremors felt in Assam

Agartala, March 13 (TVN):Tremors were felt in various parts of Assam as earthquake hit the state on Sunday, said an official of MET here. The quake hit the state around 4 PM.The epicenter of the quake was located at latitude 26.5 degree North and longitude 92.3 degree East in the region of Darrang in Assam. The tremor occurred at a depth of 10 km, the official added. However, no tremor was felt in Tripura, the MET official claimed


Internet Bandwidth: CGM of BSNL arrives to review the final preparation of inauguration

source - internetAgartala, March 13 (TVN):A K Saxena, Chief General Manager (CGM) arrived here on Saturday to review the  final preparation  of internet bandwidth schedule to be inaugurated on March 23, sources said. Saxena had a meeting  with  officers of BSNL soon after his arrival. He is schedule to  call on  Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Monday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate a 10 GBPS internet bandwidth export to India on March 23.Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also inaugurate a 100MW power supply from Tripura to Bangladesh on the same day.The entire programme will be held through video-conferencing.

 It  is worth mentioning here that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had on a number of occasion’s written letters to Modi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh for alternative telecom routing through Bangladesh for improving feeble telecommunication facilities in the northeast region

After the formal opening of international gateway of internet, Tripura will be the third Indian state which is having such gateway after Mumbai and Chennai. This will help all the north eastern states of India.

Indian Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had laid the foundation of the project in Agartala on July 13, 2015 that aims at strengthening telecom services in the north eastern states.

Under the project, an international gateway for broadband connectivity will be set up at Agartala in which connectivity will be provided through Bangladesh under an agreement between India's Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company limited.

The cost of the project is Rs 19.1 crore and annual operational expenditure is around Rs 7.2 crore. The bandwidth of 10 GBPS can be extended up to 40 GB.The pricing of power was fixed at  Rs 5.5 (Tk 6.44) per kilowatt-hour in a meeting between Tripura Power Minister Manik Dey and Bangladesh Minister of State for Power Nasrul Hamid on January 9 this year in Dhaka.

India’s State-owned Power Grid Corporation of India Limited erected 47km long 400-kV double circuit transmission lines from Suryamaninagar power grid near Agartala to Comilla in Bangladesh.

The 726 MW gas based thermal power project at Palatana in Gomati district of Tripura is run by ONGC Tripura Power Corporation (OTPC).

RS poll: Scrutiny over, both nominations found valid

Agartala, March 13 (TVN):Nominations for the lone  Rajya Sabha seat in the state s were found valid after scrutiny today.Scutiny of nominations ended this evening and papers of all both CPI(M) and Congress  were found in order, Returning Officers said. The Congress has nominated former Speaker of Tripura Assembly Jyotirmoy Nath as its candidate for the ensuing election to the state's lone Rajya Sabha seat, election to which is scheduled to be held on March 21 next. While, CPI(M) nominee Jharna Das Baidya filed her nomination.. Her election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat is a certainty given the House arithmetic. The CPI-M candidate's win in the polls are almost certain as the strength of the ruling Left Front in the 60-member house is 50. Main opposition Congress has 10 members.Ms Baidya, a senior women's front and scheduled caste co-ordination committee leader of CPI (M), had been elected to the Rajya Sabha first in the year 2010 and her term is scheduled to end on April 6

Citation of a CRPF jawan

60 Bn CRPF was deployed in Assam state when it was boiling with insurgent activities. On the 13th of March 1999, one patrol was attacked by the insurgents when it was passing through a dense jungle. The insurgents opened heavy fire at the troops. On receiving the fire, the troops immediately retaliated and forced the insurgents to flee from the area. During the fierce encounter, Shaheed CT Uttam Kumar Singh Gurang who was at the front, received severe injuries. Despite sustaining injuries he fought bravely and continued firing at the insurgents. Later the brave heart succumbed to the injuries and attained martyrdom
