Agartala, March 10 (TVN): Jan Luykx, Ambassador of the kingdom of Belgium paid a courtesy call on the  Tripura Chief Minister  at  Civil Secretariat  here today.On his visit, the Ambassador was accompanied by his wife Raka Singh; Counselor Economic Affairs, Antoine Delcourt; Trade Counselor for Flanders, Investment & Trade (FIT), Alexis Bossuyt and Trade Counselor for the Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX), Chritophe Van Overstraeten.

Later speaking to media person  the Ambassador said that it was his first visit to Tripura and that the main agenda was the visit to the state and to explore the possibilities of developing trade & commerce and food processing .The Ambassador assured the Chief Minister  of full cooperation after exploring the possibilities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit  Belgium on  March 30. He will attend the India-EU Summit. This would be the first India-EU summit in the last four years. This would also lay to rest the unpleasantness caused last year when the EU refused to confirm the dates for Modi’s Brussels visit.


KV Srijesh joins as DIG (HQ), SS Chaturvdi arriving on March 15

Agartala, March10 (TVN):KV Srijesh, IPS of Manipur – Tripura cadre: 2000 have joined as DIG (HQ). He returned from central deputation. Before leaving for central deputation he was SP of West Tripura.  Meanwhile another senior IPS,Shyam Sundar Chaturbedi of Manipur – Tripura cadre: 1990 is arriving on March 15 next. On central deputation, he was IG, SPG( Special Protection Group)

Girls should be ensured her place in family, work place and society: Panchali Bhattacharya

Agartala, March 10 (TVN): Women Development Forum (WDF) of ONGC celebrated International Women’s Day here on Wednesday. Eminent female personalities of the state of Tripura,Purnima Roy Ex - Chairperson Tripura Commission for Women and currently a Member of the Police Accountability Commission, Tripura and Panchali Bhattacharya, Social Activist & Secretary (Retd.), Tripura State Social Welfare Board were guest speakers and ED- Asset Manager ONGC S.C. Soni, was the chief guest.

Panchali Bhattacharya spoke on gender parity, education and health care of girl child. She said that even today in our society girls are treated as burden or liabilities while boys are treated as assets. She touched upon a very crucial and prevalent menace of female foeticide and the manner in which it is destroying our society. She said that if one is to pledge for parity, then first a girl should be ensured her place in family, in work place and finally society as a whole. She also shared her experience of working with the women in the unorganized sector.

Purnima Roy highlighted the necessity of giving equal importance to a boys and girls in a family. She said that it is crucial that we teach the boys to respect women and each such small step in the society will go a long way in ensuring gender parity. She further said that the first step towards gender parity is to remove all visible and invisible biases towards women from all works of life.

Speaking on the occasion S.C. Soni said that the day is observed to celebrate the strength of women. He said that Gender parity needs a focused approach throughout the year and women are architect of our society


Woman murdered

Agartala, March 10 (TVN): A woman aged 32 died on the spot when a miscreant hit her with a wooden piece at Murapara area under Bishalgarh police station on Wednesday. According to police, the deceased Seema Sarkar along with her father- Santosh Sarkar and daughter- Sanchita was passing thorough the residence of Vinod Debnath at Murapara. Following hot altercation, Nirodh, a dreaded criminal attacked Seema with a  timber a round 8 pm . The woman and his father and daughter sustained injuries in the attack. After hearing the hue and cry, the neighbours gathered there and took all the injured persons to Bishalgarh hospital.At Bishalgarh hospital,Seema was declared brought dead while her father and daughter were admitted in the hospital. An FIR has been filed against Vinod Debnath following complaint of Goutam Debnath, husband of Seema.When contacted, the duty officer said no arrest has been made as the killer is absconding.

CM inaugurates first supercomputing at NIT, Agartala

Agartala, March 09 (TVN): C-DAC PARAM, a supercomputing facility for bio-informatics and computational biology, was formally inaugurated at National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala on Wednesday morning. Inaugurating the facility, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar hoped that the new technology would usher in new benefits for the state. The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) would be utilised for conducting research in strategic areas of weather, seismology, bio-informatics, physics, computational fluid dynamics, material sciences, besides life sciences.

"The objective of the project is to establish a Centre of Excellence and to enhance research in the field of advanced information technology," said NIT, Agartala Director Prof. Gopal Mugeraya.

The facility will serve as a core backbone platform for students, faculty and researchers of the region to develop competency skills for solving grand challenge problems, he added.

An on-site engineer will also be provided by C-DAC for the entire management and running of the facility as well as proper hand holding to the users. Intensive training on Parallel Programming, Linux and cluster system administration, network and storage administration and usage of supercomputing is also a part of the activity. In the inauguration programme Dr Hemant Darbari, executive director of C-DAC, along with hundreds of students and dignitaries were present.

RS: Jharna Das files nomination

Agartala, March 09 (TVN):Jharna Das Baidya, CPI(M) candidate  filed nomination for the lone Rajya Sabha  seat from the state today. Das, filed her papers at legislative assembly to returning officer Bamdev Majumder. The state ruling CPI-M has fielded , the sitting MP as its candidate for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from the state. The decision was taken at a meeting of the state committee of the party on Sunday last. If elected, this would be the second term for Das Baidya, who is a prominent woman leader of the state. The election would be held on March 21 in the premises of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. The Left Front  has 50 of the total 60 seats in the Assembly. Meanwhile opposition party Congress likely to field candidate for the RS state
