ADB team visits state

Agartala, March 02, 2016 (TVN): A three member team of Asian Development Bank (ADB) arrived here on Tuesday for two day visit. The team was led by Mr. Rohan, environment specialist of ADB. During their visit they met YP Singh, chief secretary, SK Rakish principal secretary of urban development development. Speaking to TVN, Vishnu Pada Das, chief engineer of urban development said the ADB team is for mission visit. They reviewed   various work undergoing in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). Das, informed   ADB have    Rs 296 crore for up gradation of   water supply facilities in central zone and south zone. Under the project seven groundwater treatment plant and 14 overhead water tank will setup in south zone. Besides, solid waste management and septic management will be undertaken in South, East and Central zone of AMC.   The visiting officer of ADB acknowledged the importance of projects for meeting future requirements of safe drinking water and solid waste management for the people of Agartala city.             

Up gradation of Agartala airport: AAI floats tender

Agartala, March 02, 2016( TVN):Airport Authority of India ( AAI) have floated tender for up gradation of  Agartala , sources said.The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will spend Rs.450 crore to upgrade Agartala airport to international standards.Ground work like survey and other related works have already been completed. The project work will be start soon.

The state government has urged the Centre to declare Agartala airport as an international one, with flights to Dhaka and Chittagong in Bangladesh for trade and commerce between the two countries. If the airport would be made an international airport as part of India's Look East policy to increase trade and commerce in the North Eastern region and boost connectivity with Southeast Asian countries.

A master plan has been prepared for upgrading the airport and 72 acres of land acquired by the state government was handed over to AAI for expansion of the runway.After up gradation, it would be able to handle 1,000 passengers per hour.

Every day more than 10 flights operate in a day from the Agartala airport, which is the second busiest in the Northeast region after Guwahati airport in Assam, and will be the third international standard airport after the Guwahati and Imphal airports.

The Centre has also announced that Imphal's Tulihal airport will be an international airport after its modernization.

Smooth start to TBSE Class XII exams

Agartala, March 02, 2016 (TVN): The TBSE class XII board examinations got off to an easy start on Wednesday.On the first day of higher secondary examinations, students appeared for English language examinations across 55 examination centres. Altogether 25,928 candidates enrolled for the HS examinations. President of TBSE said the first day went off peacefully as per information gathered from different examination centers. "There have been report one incidents of cheating as per the information gathered from different centers,” From Thursday, Madhyamik (secondary examination) will also begin and a total of 47,426 candidates will appear for the examinations
