Two dog smugglers arrested

Agartala, Jan 29,2019:Two dog smugglers were arrested  Tuesday carrying four Indian breed dogs tied tightly inside gunny bags  while they were being taken to Mizoram.

Officer-in-charge of East Agartala police station, Debashish Saha said that the dogs were recovered from a vehicle  at 3 in the early morning today at Buddhamandir area in Agartala. Policemen on patrol  halted a vehicle carrying dogs in suspicious conditions. Prima facie evidence suggests that the animals were being smuggled”,

The official also said that an FIR is being registered against the accused under Prevention of Cruelty against Animals Act, 1960 of the Indian Penal Code. The detainees identified as Johnunsanga, Lalthanmuia are residents of Kanhmun, a Mizoram village bordering Tripura in the north district.

Republic Day Parade: Tripura wins best tableau award

Agartala, Jan 28,2019:The tableau from  Tripura  depicting the egalitarian, inclusive and divisive social and ethic culture linked to the Gandhian principles besides splendid attraction of tourism and heritage at the Republic Day Parade at the Rajpath, Delhi won the first prize. Earlier the state won runners up trophy twice consecutive time in  year 2016 and 2017.

 Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the awards to the winning teams at an event in Delhi today  to team leader Bhaskar Dasgupta, who is assistant director of ICA department.

Tripura is one of the 16 states of the country including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim of North East took part in the Republic Day Parade on Delhi Rajpath. A 10 – member team of artists of Tripura along with the professional tableaux experts had worked round the clock in Defence Colony  for past two weeks for the mission .

Meanwhile, Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb congratulated the team for bagging the best tableau award.

Thanga Darlong gets Padma Shri

Agartala,Jan 27,2019;Thanga Darlong (96), a famous Rosem artiste of Tripura, has been conferred the prestigious Padma Shri Award, the Union ministry of home affairs announced on Saturday.

The music maestro, who hails from Kailashahar in Unakoti district, received the fourth highest civilian award of the country in the 'centenarian' category for contribution in flute-based music.

Earlier, Darlong received the National Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 2014, Academic Fellowship Award in 2015 and state-level Vayoshresta Samman in 2016. He is also the recipient of Centenarian Award.

Meanwhile, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb congratulated the famous artiste on his achievement. Taking to Twitter, Deb wrote: “Heartiest greetings to Shri Thanga Darlong ji on being conferred the Padma Shri Award. An exceptional musical genius from Tripura, Shri Darlong has made exemplary efforts for nurturing the indigenous culture of NorthEast especially the art of playing Rosem musical instrument.”

Steps taken to develop Kokborok: CM

Agartala, Jan 19,2019: Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said  government wants to develop Kokborok  along with other languages in state and in this regard education and tribal welfare department taken initiatives. He was speaking in a colourful rally at U K Mini stadium on the occasion of 41st Kokborok Day.

In state 23 percent of total population speaks Kokborok language, steps are taken to develop the language of other tribal groups in the state. The ministry also passed a resolution to include Kokborok language in 8th Schedule of the constitution.                 

Education minister  Ratan Nath said two awards would be instituted in honour of late Radhamohan Thakur and late Manindralal Tripura from this year on for excellent literary works in Kokborok language.

Radha Mohan Thakur is the noted pioneer in Kokborok grammar who wrote ‘Kokborokma’ – a Kokborok grammar book in 1900 AD.

Kokborok is the common language of most   tribal communities of the state . As many as one third of Tripura’s 27 lakh population are from 18 tribal communities. Most of them live in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), which is spread across 7,132.56 square km and covers nearly 68% of the state’s geographical area.

E – service a boon for PDS: Deb

Agartala, Jan 18,2019:  With the introduction of e – service in PDS, the food department   has detected a total of 60, 000 ration cards and identified 2, 90,776  fake  PDS  consumers in this state, said food minister  Manoj Kanti  Deb  while speaking in National Consumer s Day here today.

"This perhaps has come up after conducting methodical verification through digitalisation. The state government is committed to render transparent governance by   e – service," he said..

 The Minister said, "A total 9,62,046 ration cards were registered during the tenure of erstwhile Left Front government. But after the BJP-IPFT government is being formed this year only 8,99,706 cards among them were found genuine."

After omission of fake ration cards the department will now save lakhs rupees each month, said the minster.     

Pradyot visits Madhav Bari

Agartala, Jan 17,2019:Senior Congress leader Pradyot Kishore Manikya on Thursday visited Madhav Bari. Significant about his visit he was accompanied several youth leaders of IPFT including general secretary Shuklacharan Noatia.  Besides surrendered militants Ranjit Debbarma and Suran Debbarma also accompanied the congress leader.  During his visit he talked with the affected people and assured them of constructing the shops which was burn if government does not assist them.

Opposition leader  Manik Sarkar, Pradesh Congress president  Birajit Sinha  few days back also visited Madhav Bari separately. Both also urged people to maintain peace and harmony. Reiterating his Party’s demand, Sarkar once again demanded Judicial probe in Madhav Bari firing incidence.

Madhav Bari witnessed violence on January 08 last during a Bandh protesting against Citizenship  (Amendment ) Bill. As trouble broke out, administration imposed Section 144 and urge agitators to disperse. However, as situation continued to be tensed police had to fire after lathi charge, tear gas firing and water canon proved futile in dispersing agitators. In the firing, six persons were injured.
